This list of FAQs for students, staff, and faculty members has been prepared based on regular inquiries made to the Keio University Health Center regarding infectious diseases. It is updated regularly, so be sure to check back often. If you belong to an affiliated school or are based at Shinanomachi Campus, please follow the policies of your school or campus.

What is an infectious disease?▼
An infectious disease here refers to a disease designated by the School Health and Safety Act that should be prevented from spreading on school campuses.

Do I need to report to the university if I have been infected with an infectious disease?▼
Yes, you do. In order to prevent the spread of infectious diseases on campus, anyone infected with an infectious disease will not be allowed on campus for a designated period of time.

As a medical institution, Shinanomachi Campus requires infection control measures. Students, faculty, and staff must follow the instructions of the hospital's Center for Infectious Disease and Infection Control and the Shinanomachi Branch of the Health Center.

Some students, faculty, and staff affiliated with Hiyoshi, Shiba-Kyoritsu, and SFC need to visit Shinanomachi Campus for training or research. Which form should they use when reporting an infectious disease, the Shinanomachi form or a non-Shinanomachi form?▼
They should generally use a non-Shinanomachi form provided by their affiliated campus. However, when visiting Shinanomachi Campus, they should follow campus policies regarding infection control.

If I have a contagious illness that is not an infectious disease designated by the School Health and Safety Act, do I have to report it?

Only report it if your doctor has instructed you to refrain from going to school or work. If you still need clarification, please consult the Health Center.
Where can I obtain the document needed to show that I have recovered and can return to campus?▼

I have had contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19/influenza. Will I still be able to go to campus?▼
You can still go to campus, but you will need to monitor yourself for symptoms. There is no need to report to the Health Center.
If you develop symptoms, there is a possibility that you may have been infected, so we recommend visiting a health care center and getting tested.

What should I do if I am experiencing symptoms associated with fever, cold, or stomach flu?▼
① If you are not diagnosed with an infectious disease, you can still go to campus. There is no need to report to the Health Center. However, regardless of whether you have an infectious disease, we recommend not visiting campus if you feel unwell.
② If you experience severe symptoms, we recommend you visit a medical institution and follow your health care provider's instructions. If you are eligible, you can also visit a Keio Gijuku Clinic or the Health Center at the Keio University Hospital.

I am in charge of my department (e.g., director or manager, professor, instructor, department head, head nurse, head of an athletic association, practical training supervisor, contractor supervisor). I received a report from someone in my department that they are experiencing symptoms associated with fever, cold, or stomach flu. What should I do?▼
If multiple people in your department are experiencing symptoms, please consult with the Health Center at your campus.

What should I do if I feel unwell after returning from abroad?▼
It is possible to become infected with a pathogen while abroad, go through an incubation period, and develop symptoms after returning home. If you experience symptoms such as fever after returning home, please visit a medical institution. The details of your trip can also be important for treatment, so be sure to share relevant information when you see your doctor.
Group Activities & International Travel
Multiple cases of stomach flu/cold-like symptoms have been reported at an office, a student group, a team/club in the Athletic Association, or student dormitories. Is reporting necessary? Can we continue our activities?▼
